The winless streak is over for Franklin County's boys soccer team, thanks to a 4-2 victory over George Rogers Clark Tuesday night at Sower Soccer Field.
The Flyers (6-6-1) hadn't won since beating Bourbon County Sept. 6 to win the Stonerside Cup, but while going 0-4-1 the last two weeks they lost 2-0 to Lexington Christian, currently ranked 16th in the state, and 3-1 to Tates Creek, ranked ninth in the state.
"Something we hadn't done is possessed the ball," FCHS senior Kurt Jewell said, "and then you don't have open scoring opportunities. I think tonight's game helps. It gets us back to playing where we were. The last five games we hadn't played as well as we could."
On Tuesday the Flyers opened the scoring on a goal by Adam Jones with about 13 minutes left in the first half. The assist went to Cliff Knowles.
Jewell scored the first of his two goals with 2:28 left in the half, leaving the halftime score at 2-0. His second goal came with 28:29 left in the game off an assist from Aaron Chavez.
Just four minutes later Nick Johnson scored on a free kick for the Cardinals, and Josh Deaton's goal with 22:42 remaining made the score 3-2.
