The Franklin County Invitational cross country meet will have one of the state's largest fields ever this Saturday at the Kentucky Horse Park.
Over 1,700 runners will be competing in the six races, which include boys and girls varsity, junior varsity and middle school teams.
"It's definitely the largest field since I've been here," said Franklin County coach Kelly McDaniel said, who is in her third year at FCHS.
The varsity races are loaded with several of the top runners in the state.
On the girls side, Manual's Melissa Massey, Warren East's Heather Coulter, Somerset's Sarah Cole and St. Henry's Emily Frette head a strong field. Frankfort's Leesa Unger and Ryan Quire are the best chances for the local teams.
But it's the FCHS girls squad which will likely place highest in the team standings among the locals.
The Lady Flyers have balance throughout their lineup, headed by sophomores Kate Hamilton and Layne Bush as well as freshman Yvonne Stone.
"They've really worked hard this year," McDaniel said of her girls' unit. "It helps to have that balance because they always seem to be right together."
