The first-round leaders turned out to be the champions in the Hilen Cup Thursday at Juniper Hill.
Franklin County's boys golf team won the three-day competition for the seventh straight year, and FCHS senior Brandon Gaines won the Geno Benassi Memorial Award.
The Flyers finished with a two-round total of 289 (144-145), and Western Hills was second with a 303 (152-151). Frankfort High finished at 335 (170-165).
In the Hilen Cup, the high round for each team and individual is thrown out. Gaines, who shot even-par 35 the first two days, threw out the 39 he shot Thursday and finished at 70, two strokes ahead of teammate Robert Oliver and WHHS' Sean Rodgers.
"I just didn't play as well today," Gaines said about his round Thursday. "I didn't hit it solid and I didn't putt well. I had three or four that lipped out. I didn't have my 'A' game today. I was surprised there weren't some lower scores. It wasn't windy, and the course didn't play that hard.
"I've been on the team since I was in the eighth grade," he added, "and it's always been one of my goals to win this tournament. What a better way to end my high school match career than by going out and winning it."
