KSU falls to Golden Lions 36-9

Kentucky State's football team played even with Arkansas-Pine Bluff in the first half, but the Golden Lions pulled away for a 36-9 victory over KSU Saturday at the Gateway Classic in St. Louis.

The Thorobreds went up 9-0 early in the second quarter after a 43-yard field goal by Scott Lambert and a 14-yard touchdown pass from Joe McBride to Gordon Miles. UAPB answered with a 27-yard field goal by Michael Seller and, on the last play of the first half, a 78-yard scoring strike from John Pierce to Brian Miller.

In the second half Pierce had two touchdown passes, one for 26 yards to Cary Washington and the other 65 yards to Brian Jones. He also ran 76 yards for a touchdown, and Tyrone Walker returned an interception 88 yards for another score.

McBride finished the game 20-for-52 on passes for 241 yards with no interceptions and one touchdown. He was sacked five times. Shawn Johnson threw two passes with no completions and one interception.

KSU rushed for 13 yards. Roni Robinson led the team with 32 yards on 15 carries. Miles caught seven passes for 91 yards and one touchdown, and Derek Talbert had five receptions for 55 yards.
