The pressure's off for the Franklin County girls golf team.
The Lady Flyers, winners of Region 7, open play in the state tournament Tuesday at Bellefonte Country Club in Ashland.
"There are a lot of good teams out in the state," FCHS coach Drex Davis said. "The approach we're taking is go have fun. We could shoot our best score and not win, and we could shoot our worst and still make the cut. Tuesday's round should be low stress."
There was plenty of stress and pressure for the Lady Flyers in last week's regional tournament where they were co-favorites along with Lexington Christian and Woodford County. The top two teams in the region advance to the state tournament.
Franklin County won the tournament with a team score of 342, and Lexington Christian was runner-up at 348.
"I was excited," said FCHS' Rachel Oliver about winning the region. "I was a little shocked. I really wanted us to go as a team. It's a whole lot better with the team. Last year I hung out the whole time with my dad and Drex. That was fun, but it's more fun with a team."
Oliver and teammate Holly Kell will be playing in their third straight state tournament. Both played on the team that finished third at state two years ago, and they qualified as individuals for last year's tournament.
