The Franklin County volleyball team showed a lot of heart but couldn't overcome a strong performance by Woodford County Thursday night in the finals of the District 38 volleyball tournament at WHHS.
The Lady Jackets did nearly everything right in a 25-15, 25-20 win over FCHS, which advanced to the finals by knocking off Western Hills 25-19, 25-16 in the first match of the night.
Both Woodford and Franklin County will move on to next week's regional tournament at Henry Clay.
"I'm real proud of my team for making it to the regional tournament," FCHS coach Kate Dominick said of her squad, the defending district tournament champion. "I think we can have a good showing there."
The Lady Flyers played well for the most part against both teams but struggled on serves throughout the night.
"We didn't serve well and I guarantee we're going to work on that a lot in practice," Dominick said. "We beat ourselves."
Still, Franklin County made Woodford County work to clinch the district title. After dropping the first game 25-15, FCHS fell behind 8-2 in the second game.
Behind the serving of Tara Brewer and Megan Graves, FCHS pulled to within 10-9. Lindsie Barley had two kills during the run.
