BUCKNER - Frankfort High's boys soccer team stayed with Oldham County for awhile, but once the Colonels broke the ice they scored three quick goals on their way to a 4-0 win in the Region 9 tournament Tuesday at Oldham County High School.
Oldham will play North Oldham Thursday at 7 p.m. for the regional championship. North Oldham defeated Western Hills 1-0 in Tuesday's second semifinal game.
"This is a season we're not ready to give up," FHS coach Sherrill Smith said. "Our three seniors have given four years of outstanding soccer to Frankfort High - Ramie Hutchison, Than Cutler and Thomas Sachtler. I'm proud to have had the chance to coach them, and I know they'll go on and do great things."
Tuesday's first semifinal was scoreless until the Colonels' Nate Littles was credited with a goal that bounced in off an FHS defender with 14:13 left in the first half.
Less than a minute later Chris Kittleson scored for Oldham, and Brandon Larkin put the Colonels up 3-0 with 8:46 left in the first half.
"I didn't think we played particularly well," Oldham coach Mark Robson said. "I thought we rushed things an awful lot, and this may have been a game where we didn't need to do that as much as we did.
