Highlands, history loom for FCHS

By SUSAN RIDDELL State Journal Sports Writer Published:

Highlands High School enters the state football playoffs each year with one goal.

To win it all.

And that goal is no different this year for the Bluebirds, winners of 14 state championships.

"Our goal is always to win state titles," Highlands coach Dale Mueller said. "Either we win a state championship or we don't, and we hope this year is a year we do."

The Bluebirds will host Franklin County Friday night in the opening round of the Class AAA playoffs in Fort Thomas. Kickoff is set for 8 p.m.

Highlands is currently ranked sixth in AAA. The Bluebirds are 8-2 overall, with their losses coming to Boyle County and Danville by one point each.

"Our schedule is geared toward getting us ready for the playoffs," Mueller said. "We've lost two games, so we can be beaten."

Highlands is led by a talent group of upperclassmen.
