K-State women fall 81-59

Fort Valley State went for a clean sweep against Kentucky State's women's basketball team Tuesday and the Lady Wildcats got it, beating KSU 81-59 at the Exum Center.

FVSU defeated the Thorobrettes 70-60 on Jan. 13 in Fort Valley, Ga.

On Tuesday the Lady Wildcats grabbed a 44-27 lead at halftime and never let KSU get closer than 13 points in the second half.

The Thorobrettes had the deficit down to 13 points, 52-39, after Yayo Radder hit two free throws with 15:54 remaining in the game, but Fort Valley scored the next five points for a 57-39 advantage.

KSU ended the run with a baseline jumper by Mahogany Cross, but the Lady Wildcats countered with a 14-0 run that gave them a 71-41 lead with 6:57 left in the game.

K-State outscored FVSU 15-3 over the next four minutes with Kenya Jones hitting three straight baskets - two layups and a three-pointer.

Neither team shot well with KSU hitting 35.2 percent from the field and Fort Valley connecting on 32.9 percent of its shots.

The visitors were 27-for-38 from the foul line while the Thorobrettes were 19-for-28. Fort Valley held a slim 49-45 rebounding edge.
