BEREA - The Frankfort girls basketball team got off to a rocky start Friday night versus Lexington Christian in the finals of the 11th Region All A Tournament, and the Lady Panthers could never find an offensive rhythm.
"I really thought we could win and I thought if we didn't at least it would be close," FHS coach Nikki Smith said after her team lost to LCA 60-24 in the championship at Berea High School. "We just couldn't find the basket tonight."
The Lady Panthers were down 10-0 before they even got a shot off against the Lady Eagles, who boast a talented, veteran lineup.
By the end of the first quarter, Frankfort was down 15-6 and the Lady Panthers trailed 34-16 at the half.
"They got ahead of us early and after awhile that just wears on you when you're not making shots," Smith said of her team.
It never got any better for Frankfort. The Lady Panthers scored just eight points in the second half, going one stretch without a point for over nine minutes.
"We were outplayed tonight," Smith said. "We had a game plan coming in and we didn't execute. I didn't think we played that bad defensively.
"But I thought the kids played their hearts out," Smith added. "We just couldn't make baskets."
