No. 4 Frankfort vs. Danville
at Sower Football Field
Kickoff: 7:30 p.m.
Records: Frankfort (6-2, 4-0); Danville (3-6)
Last week: Frankfort defeated Trimble Co. 48-0; Danville defeated Washington Co. 61-0
FHS notes: The Panthers have coasted through their distrcit schedule and now have a bit of a challenge to close out the regular season. Though the Admirals aren’t the team they used to be, this game has always been a tight one and Friday, with the weather once again forcing both teams to use their strengths – running the ball – the game should be a decent one. Though the game means nothing for the playoffs, the Panthers still need a win to go into the postseason with some momentum.
A look at Danville
Mascot: Admiral
Class: 2A
Head coach: Sam Harp
Key players: Will Dunn, Devin Lynn, Patrick Brand, Devonta Alcorn
Last year’s record: 8-4 (lost to Green Co. 28-21 in the second round of the Class 2A playoffs)
Points scored: 231
Points allowed: 267
Notes: Oh, how the mighty have fallen. The Admirals will post their first losing season in at least the last 10 years (KHSAA.org records don’t go past 1998). Danville’s three wins so far this season are above its average number of LOSSES over the past decade. Freshman QB Devonte Alcorn leads the offense this season. He has 734 yards passing this season also with 5 touchdowns and has only thrown one interception. Patrick Brand, Devin Lynn and Will Dunn lead the Danville running game. They have combined for 1,172 yards and nine TDs this season with Brand leading the way with 482 and Lynn leading the scoring with five TDs.
No. 8 Western Hills vs. Franklin Co.
at WHHS
Kickoff: 7:30 p.m.
Radio: STAR 103.7 FM, pregame show starts at 7:10 p.m.
Records: Western Hills (6-3, 2-1); Franklin Co. (1-8, 0-4)
Last week: Western Hills defeated North Oldham 30-7; Franklin Co. lost to Harrison Co. 19-6
A look at Western Hills
Mascot: Wolverine
Class: 3A
Head coach: Don Miller
Key players: Dylan Curry, Justin Wright, Cody Hecker, Chris Pugh, Bobby Clay
Last year’s record: 6-5 (lost to Elizabethtown 62-23 in the first round of the Class 3A playoffs)
Points scored: 217
Points allowed: 150
Notes: Dylan Curry leads a multifaceted offense for the Wolverines. His arm and threat to run, paired with the power running of Justin Wright and Cody Hecker are a formidable force for any team. Curry’s favorite targets include Chris Pugh and Bobby Clay who are both dangerous after the catch. Stifling run defense is also a hallmark of WHHS and will cause fits for the FCHS running attack.
A look at Franklin Co.
Mascot: Flyer
Class: 4A
Head coach: Aaron Stepp
Key players: Jeremy Gardner, Aaron Lackey, Will Bell, Ryan Timmons
Last year’s record: 6-6 (lost to Boyle Co. 42-8 in the second round of the Class 4A playoffs)
Points scored: 98
Points allowed: 203
Notes: The Flyers will be playing for pride on Friday night with their season coming to an end. Jeremy Gardner continues to lead the Flyer offense that is run-based behind the speed of Ryan Timmons and the power running of Aaron Lackey. The wet weather will slow down the Flyers somewhat, but by now they should be used to it. Gardner can also air it out from time to time and Will Bell is a big receiver who might cause problems for WHHS’ undersized secondary – with the exception of 6-foot-6 safety Dylan Curry.
