Anderson squeaks by Flyers, 64-63
LAWRENCEBURG – Anderson County’s boys basketball team edged Franklin County 64-63 Friday night.
The Bearcats (20-7) took a 19-11 lead after the first quarter and were ahead 30-26 at halftime.
FCHS (14-15) took a 45-42 lead into the fourth quarter.
Franklin County’s Ryan Timmons led all players with 31 points. He also had six rebounds, five steals and three assists.
Garrett Hamilton had eight rebounds and four assists, Chris Roberts had six blocked shots, and Casey Tabor had three assists.
Others scoring for the Flyers were Aaron Brown with 10 points, Tabor and Roberts with seven points each, Hamilton with five, and Rylan Rowe with three points.
Anderson placed four players in double figures – Jay Smith with 17 points, Spencer Ruggles with 15, Darrin Laswell with 12, and Lowell Gordon with 11 points.
Rounding out the scoring for ACHS were Ross Cox with four points, Austin Hall with three, and Seth Carmichael with two points.
Franklin County plays Frankfort High Tuesday at 8:15 p.m. in the 41st District tournament at the Frankfort Convention Center.
Lady Flyers fall to Anderson
LAWRENCEBURG – Anderson County’s girls basketball team took an early lead and went on to beat Franklin County 67-26 Friday night.
The Lady Bearcats (22-5) led 17-4 after the first quarter and 33-14 at halftime.
Dasia Kilbourne was the top scorer for FCHS (16-14) with 11 points, followed by Raven Timmons with five, Malaka Frank with four, Lauren Taylor and Rebecca Cook with two points each, and Tori Zeigler and Megan Gearhart with one point each.
Sydney Brown scored 16 points to lead Anderson, Eriel McKee had 14 points, and MacKenzie Cann chipped in 10.
Franklin County plays its next game in the 41st District tournament Tuesday night at the Frankfort Convention Center, taking on Western Hills at 6:30 p.m.
Lafayette stops Lady Wolverines
LEXINGTON – Western Hills’ girls basketball team closed out the regular season with a 72-27 loss at Lafayette Friday night.
The Lady Generals (15-13) jumped out to a 13-4 lead at the end of the first quarter and led 32-14 at halftime.
WHHS (5-25) was led in scoring by Stephine Sparkman with 16 points. Also scoring for the Lady Wolverines were Jenna Harrod, Morgan Hibdon, Rikki Quarles, Ashley Long and Aja Leachman with two points each, and LaKenzie Ritchie with one point.
Dee Givens, Aleisha Stiltner and Sarah Cooley all scored 14 points to lead Lafayette.
Western Hills’ next game is Tuesday in the 41st District tournament against Franklin County. Game time is 6:30 p.m. at the Frankfort Convention Center.
