SOFTBALL

Capital City Showcase begins Friday

Franklin County High School will be hosting the Capital City Showcase softball tournament Friday and Saturday at Lakeview Park.

There will be 18 teams in five pools. Pool play will begin Friday evening and continue into Saturday morning. The top two teams in each pool will then advance to play in a single-elimination tournament Saturday afternoon with the championship game scheduled for 8 p.m.

The following schools are participating in the tournament: Pool A – Collins, Heath and St. Henry; Pool B – Bourbon County, Butler (Lou.), Henry County and Woodford County; Pool C – Christian Academy of Louisville (CAL), Conner, Franklin County and Graves County; Pool D – Anderson County, Butler County, Eastern and St. Joseph (Ohio); and Pool E – Holy Cross (Lou.), Scott County and West Jessamine. 

The Lady Flyers begin play Friday at 5:30 p.m. against CAL on Lakeview Field C. FCHS will play again on Saturday morning at 9 against Conner on Field C and the Lady Flyers’ last pool game will be at 1:30 p.m. against Graves County on Field A. 

 

EMS hosting softball tournament

Elkhorn Middle School will be hosting a fast pitch softball tournament April 20-21 at Lakeview Park and Sallie Gaines Field. 

Admission is $5 per person and children under 10 are free. T-shirts and concessions will be available throughout the tournament. 

The tournament will consist of four pools of three teams that will each play within their respective pools on Friday evening and Saturday morning. Later Saturday, the teams will begin single-elimination tournament play seeded based on how each finished in pool play. 

Elkhorn Middle, Owen County and the Christian Academy of Louisville (CAL) are in Pool A. In Pool B, it is Bourbon County, Anderson County and Jefferson County Traditional. In Pool C, the teams are Woodford County, Georgetown and Clark-Moore. Pool D consists of Bondurant, Scott County and Kammerer. 

EMS opens play on Friday at 5:30 p.m. against Owen County at Sallie Gaines Field. EMS plays again at 7 p.m. on the same field against CAL. 

Bondurant takes on Kammerer at 5 p.m. and then Scott County at 6:30 p.m. – both games on Lakeview Field C.

 

GOLF

Buck Run Baptist missions scramble set

Buck Run Baptist Church’s fifth annual missions golf scramble will be Saturday, May 12, at Juniper Hill Golf Course.

Registration fee is $55 per player and includes green fees, cart and lunch. Mulligans will be available at $5 per mulligan with a limit of two mulligans per player.

Sign-in will be 10:30-11:30 a.m. May 12 with lunch served from 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. The scramble will start at 1.

There will also be a free putting contest with a single contestant having one putt for $5,000 cash. 

Each player in the scramble will shoot a qualifying putt with the player closest in the qualifying round having one putt for the big money at the conclusion of the scramble.

Also, prizes will be awarded to the two top scoring teams and there will be several door prizes available. Hole sponsorship is available for $100. 

Proceeds from the scramble will be used for the benefit of the Buck Run Baptist Church missions committee. 

The funds will be used to provide financial assistance for mission projects.

The registration deadline is May 4, and the scramble is limited to the first 24 teams that register.
