Harrod wins award, FCHS boys finish 3rd at Danville

DANVILLE – Franklin County’s Tighe Harrod received the outstanding performance award for a male athlete at the 16th annual E.G. Plummer Invitational track meet Friday at Danville High School’s Admiral Stadium.

Harrod won the pole vault with a vault of 11 feet, 6 inches, a foot better than runner-up Micah Smith of Casey County at 10-06.

Other winners for FCHS were Ryan Timmons (100 and 200 meters), Kambrea Johnson (shot put), the girls 4x200-meter relay team and the boys 4x200-meter relay team.

The Flyers were third in the boys team standings with 87 points. Danville won the meet with 166 points, and Burgin was second with 90.

The FCHS girls were fifth with 78 points. Casey County was the winner with 166 points.

WHHS, FHS run well at Carroll Co. meet

CARROLLTON – One Western Hills relay team and two individual runners set meet records at the Carroll County Invitational Friday.

The WHHS boys 4x800-meter relay team of Austin Huffman, Grant Hughes, Tyler Nix and Jordan Lewis set a meet record of 8 minutes, 55.25 seconds in winning the event, breaking the record of 8:55.33.

Alisha Adair won the 100-meter dash in 12.68 seconds for a meet record. The previous record was 12.69.

In the 400-meter dash, Anna Curlin set a meet record of 1:00.44 to win the race, besting the record of 1:01.18. Curlin also won the 200-meter dash Friday.

Several WHHS and Frankfort High athletes won events at the meet.

Winners from FHS were Shanae Brown in the 300-meter hurdles and Cailyn Jouett in the shot put.

In addition to Adair, Curlin and the boys 4x800 relay, the winners from WHHS were Cameron Murphy in the 110-meter and 300-meter hurdles, Nix in the 1,600-meter run, Huffman in the 800-meter run and Aja Leachman in the discus throw.

The Lady Wolverines were runners-up in the meet with 94 points, and FHS was third with 62. Ryle won the girls team title with 211 points.

Western Hills finished second in the boys team standings with 121 points, and the Panthers were sixth with 14. Owen County won the meet with 163 points.
