Elkhorn wins on eighth-grade night

Elkhorn Middle School’s softball team celebrated eighth-grade night by taking two games from Clark County Thursday at Sally Gaines Field.

EMS won 12-0 in the A game playing all eighth-graders and just one seventh-grader, Chandler Kelly. The Lady Elks won the B game 16-3.

Mallory Cornish pitched a no-hitter for Elkhorn with four strikeouts in the A game. Kelly hit a home run, triple and single, and Jamie Beason hit two triples and a single. 

Jamie Jordan and Shelby Brown both singled twice, and Cornish, Taylor Boggs, Darien Metts and Sydney Strickland each had a base hit.

In the B game Kelly hit a home run and single, and Trinity Peach hit two singles. Montana Muravchick, Danielle Hockensmith, McKenzie Burns and Kandis Sutherland all singled. Muravchick and Banta pitched.

Elkhorn plays again in the Bluegrass Conference end-of-season tournament against third-seeded Bourbon County at 6 p.m. Monday in Paris. EMS is seeded sixth in the tournament.

EMS vs. Royal Springs

The Lady Elks took two games from Royal Springs on May 1 in Georgetown. Elkhorn won the A game 6-4 and the B game 9-6.

In the A game Hockensmith and Strickland both had two singles for EMS, and Jordan, Metts and Sutherland all singled. Cornish pitched.

In the B game Hockensmith singled three times, and Muravchick, Jordan, Beason and Metts each had a base hit. Muravchick and Banta pitched.

Elkhorn faced Royal Springs on April 25 at Sally Gaines Field.

The Lady Elks lost the A game 7-4 and won the B game 10-8.

Beason hit three singles for EMS in the A game, Kelly hit a triple, and Banta hit a double. Banta and Cornish pitched.

Elkhorn had 10 hits in the B game – a triple and single from Kelly, a double and single by Burns, two singles from Peach, and singles from Banta, Chloe Hammond, Metts and Muravchick. Muravchick pitched.

EMS vs. Owen Co.

The Lady Elks rallied with three runs in the A game against Owen County April 30 in Owenton but came up just short, losing 5-4.

Beason hit a triple and single, Banta and Strickland each hit two singles, and Cornish, Hockensmith, Kaycee Purvis and Brown all had a base hit. Cornish pitched.

Elkhorn was trailing 9-4 in the third inning of the B game when it was called because of lightning. Peach, Metts and Boggs each hit a single in the game, and Banta and Muravchick pitched.

The two teams met on April 26 at Lakeview Park with Owen County winning 7-2 in the A game and 10-6 in the B game.

The Lady Elks had six hits in the A game, all singles. Muravchick had two hits, and Cornish, Beason, Brown and Jordan all had one hit. Cornish and Banta pitched.

In the B game Kelly singled three times, and Banta hit a double and single. Muravchick hit a double, and Peach, Hammond and Boggs had a single apiece. Banta pitched.

EMS vs. Scott Co.

Elkhorn faced Scott County April 27 in Georgetown. Scott County won the A game 8-2 and the B game 12-0.

EMS had three hits in the A game – singles by Cornish, Beason and Kelly. Cornish pitched.

Hockensmith and Boggs both singled in the B game, and Muravchick and Banta pitched.

EMS vs. Clark Co.

Elkhorn won two games against Clark County April 24 in Winchester. The Lady Elks won the A game 15-4 and the B game 15-3.

Kelly hit a home run and triple for the Lady Elks in the A game. Muravchick had two singles and a double, and Beason and Strickland each hit a single and double.

Purvis, Boggs and Sutherland all singled. Banta pitched.

Metts hit a double and single in the B game, Burns, Hockensmith, Muravchick and Hammond all singled twice, and Peach and Brooklyn Perry each had a base hit. Muravchick pitched.
