Several local athletes found out Sunday they’ve earned berths to the state track meet this week.
The top two finishers in each event at the regional meets Saturday automatically qualified for state, but others have advanced based on their times or distances at the region.
The state meet will be at the University of Louisville’s Owsley Frazier Cardinal Park.
Franklin County and Western Hills will be competing in the Class 2A state meet Friday.
WHHS’ additional qualifiers are Austin Huffman in the 800-meter run, Dove DeNigris in the 3,200-meter run, Alissa May in the shot put, Annie Cunningham in the pole vault, and the boys 4x400-meter relay team.
Running on the 4x4 relay Saturday at the regional meet were Austin May, Huffman, Cameron Murphy and Grant Hughes.
Aja Leachman of Western Hills, who won the discus throw at the regional meet, has also qualified in the shot put.
For Franklin County the additional qualifiers are Kerri Bochantin in the 800-meter run and Kambrea Johnson in the shot put and discus throw.
Frankfort High will be competing in the Class 1A state meet Thursday at U of L, and three FHS athletes who had qualified at the regional meet in individual events will have their workload increased at state.
Cailyn Jouett won the shot put Saturday at the regional meet, and she’s also qualified in the discus throw.
Shantiqa Shaw placed second in the long jump, and she’ll also be competing for the 300-meter hurdles.
Aaron Jackson, who was second in the 400-meter dash, will also compete in the 100-meter dash and the long jump at state.
