Flyer Classic set to tee off on Monday

Franklin County’s boys golf team will be hosting the two-day Flyer Classic Monday and Tuesday.

Monday’s round will be played at the Frankfort Country Club, and Tuesday’s round will take place at Marriott Griffin Gate in Lexington.

Play will start at 8 a.m. each day.

Scott County, the defending champion, is in this year’s field. The Cardinals’ No. 1 player, Billy Tom Sargent, is the defending individual champion.

The Flyers opened their season last week at the 5-Star General Lafayette Invitational played Thursday and Friday at the Gay Brewer Jr. course at Picadome.

FCHS finished in 11th place, shooting 34 shots better than last year.

Franklin County had a team score of 329. The Flyers’ Jacob Cook and Luke Kellerman both shot seven-over par 79 to lead the team.

Rounding out the scoring for FCHS were Ben Nolan, 85; Will Molen, 86; and Caleb Hughes, 90.

The Flyers didn’t have a golfer older than a sophomore play in the tournament.

West Jessamine shot 287 to win the tournament by 10 shots over St. Xavier Green. St. Xavier Gold was third with a score of 304.

In the junior varsity event John Harnice finished in a tie for 11th for the Flyers with a score of 85, and Will Harnice tied for 16th place with an 86.
