Lady Wolverines 9th in tourney
Western Hills’ girls golf team placed ninth in the Shelby County Invitational Saturday at Weissinger Hills.
The Lady Wolverines had a team score of 382. Defending state champion Sacred Heart won the tournament with a 302.
Megan Kinney led WHHS, placing 13th with a score of 79. Also playing for Western Hills were Anna Hawkins, 94; Peyton Silva, 102; Hanna Raymer, 107; and Ashley Stevens, 108.
Franklin County had two golfers play as individuals in the tournament. Taylor Cammack shot 102, and Cami Montgomery shot 107.
WHHS and FCHS have a home match at Juniper Hill Wednesday against Owen County.
WHHS wins Soccerama match
The WHHS boys varsity soccer team defeated Meade County 3-1 on Saturday in the first weekend of the FHS Soccerama at the Panther Athletic Complex.
The Wolverines’ final preseason game is against Pikeville High in the FHS Soccerama Saturday, Aug. 11 at 1 p.m. at the Panther Athletic Complex.
The regular season opener for both the Western Hills varsity and junior varsity is against Oldham County on Tuesday, Aug. 14, at Sower Soccer Field at Capitol View Park. The JV game begins at 5:30 p.m. and the varsity plays at 7.
On Thursday, Aug. 16 at 6 and 8 p.m. the JV and varsity play Madison Central at Sower.
Football team scrimmage Friday
Franklin County’s football team will scrimmage Dixie Heights at 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 10 at Benny Watkins Field.
The public is invited to attend.
The Flyers went 11-1 last year and open this season Aug. 17 at Nelson County.
Fall signups Wednesday
The City of Frankfort Parks, Recreation and Historic Sites Department will be holding its fall adult softball signups at City Hall in the council chambers on Wednesday, Aug. 8 at 6 p.m.
League play will begin on Aug. 27.

Juniper Ladies Club tourney this weekend
The JHLGC Ladies Club Championship will be held at Juniper Hill Golf Course Aug. 11-12.
The entry fee is $10 and entry forms are available in the pro shop. Entries must be received by noon on Thursday, Aug. 9.
