The Franklin County Flyers boys golf team posted an exciting one-stroke victory Thursday on the road against Woodford County at Woodford Hills Country Club.
Trailing by three shots after the first four players’ scores were posted, and heading to the ninth and final tee, FCHS sophomore Ben Nolan had to make par for the Flyers to pull out the win. Nolan hit a booming drive to set up an aggressive short iron that he hit within seven feet of the hole. He then two-putted to seal the win.
The Flyers were led by Jacob Cook’s 3-over par 38. The win moved FCHS’ record in CKC play to 2-0.
Franklin County is playing with two seventh-graders, two eighth-graders, three freshmen and three sophomores on its varsity and JV teams.
The Flyer JV team was victorious as well posting a five-stroke victory over the Yellow Jackets. For the second time in two matches, seventh-grader Will Harnice was medalist, firing a six-over par 41. The win moves the Flyer JV squad to 2-0.
