Letcher Co. Central vs. No. 4 Franklin Co.

Kickoff: 7:30 p.m.

Records: Franklin County 2-0; Letcher County Central 0-2

Last week: Franklin County defeated Western Hills 63-0; Letcher County Central lost to Breathitt County 54-16.

LCC last season: 4-7 (lost in the first round of the Class 5A state playoffs to Lincoln County 28-21).

FCHS notes: The Flyers, who went undefeated in the regular season last year, are off to another fast start this season. They’ve outscored their opponents 125-41. Senior quarterback Logan Woodside has completed 17 of 21 passes for 553 yards and nine touchdowns with no interceptions. Senior Ryan Timmons has caught six passes for 265 yards and four touchdowns, and Lorenzo McCaskell’s two receptions have both gone for touchdowns. Timmons and Woodside have both rushed for two touchdowns, as has freshman Landon Hurst. Timmons leads FCHS in scoring this season with 36 points, followed by McCaskell with 18. In addition to his two touchdown receptions, McCaskell scored on a fumble return. Kicker Zach Durham is a perfect 17-for-17 on extra point kicks, making him third on the team in scoring. On defense Jared Marshall has a team-high 12.5 tackles, followed by Greg Maupin, Brandon Smith and McCaskell with 12 tackles each.

Grant Co. vs.Western Hills

Records: Western Hills 0-2; Grant County 0-2.

Last week: Western Hills lost to Franklin County 63-0; Grant County lost to Owen County 44-14.

Grant County last season: 3-7

WHHS notes: The Wolverines are taking on their second straight Class 5A school this week in the middle of a three-game home stand. Turnovers plagued Western Hills last week in its loss to Franklin County. Senior Casey McLean and freshman Daniel Childress were the team’s leading rushers in that game, with McLean carrying the ball 14 times for 47 yards and Childress gaining 46 yards on 13 carries. Childress and Nick Young split time at quarterback, and Zach Hart led the Wolverine defense with eight tackles. McLean has scored all of the Wolverines’ points this year, rushing for two touchdowns and kicking an extra point in the season opener at Woodford County.

No. 4 Frankfort vs. Green Co.

at Greensburg

Kickoff: 7:30 p.m.

Records: Frankfort 2-0; Green County 1-1

Last week: Frankfort defeated Rockcastle County 42-27; Green County beat Marion County 43-28.

Green County last season: 7-4 (lost in the first round of the Class 2A state playoffs to DeSales 21-7).

FHS notes: The Panthers are on the road for the second straight week, taking on a team from a larger class for the third time so far this season. All but three of Frankfort’s opponents this year are in a larger class than the Class 1A Panthers. Traditionally a running team, FHS has taken to the air this season with great success. Senior quarterback Chris Hawkins is 23-for-40 for 443 yards and four touchdowns. He’s thrown one interception. Senior Aaron Jackson has eight catches for 162 yards and two touchdowns, and sophomore Jalen Washington has caught seven passes for 186 yards and two touchdowns. Jalen Washington is also the team’s leading rusher with 74 yards and three rushing touchdowns. Isaiah Jackson and Raheem Maxwell both have 22 tackles to lead the Panther defense. Aaron Jackson has 18 tackles, and D.J. Washington has 17. Green County is listed as also receiving votes in this week’s Associated Press poll. The Dragons lost their opener to North Bullitt 34-28, but North Bullitt is currently ranked No. 8 in Class 5A.
