FOOTBALL

Wilkins playing here Saturday

Christian Wilkins, a 2012 graduate of Western Hills, is a member of the Kentucky Wesleyan football team and will be in town Saturday when Kentucky State hosts the Panthers at Alumni Stadium.

Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.

Wilkins, a four-year starter for the WHHS football team, is a reserve on defense at defensive tackle for KWC, and he’s also a punt snapper and extra-point/field goal snapper.

He saw action in the Panthers’ first game as a punt snapper with a total of eight snaps.

Kentucky Wesleyan brings a 0-1 record into Saturday’s game, having lost its opener at home to Walsh 40-10 on Aug. 30.

HORSE RACING

Groupie Doll racing Saturday

Groupie Doll, a 4-year-old filly bred and owned by Fred Bradley and Buff Bradley of Frankfort and trained by Buff Bradley, is in the sixth race (7:30 p.m. EDT) on Saturday night at Presque Isle Downs.

This is the Grade 2 $400,000 Masters and is going 6½ furlongs on the tapeta track. Rajiv Maragh will be in the irons, and Groupie Doll has drawn post No. 7 in a field of 12 fillies and mares. The race is expected to be televised live on TVG.

SWIMMING

High school meetings scheduled

All students in grades 6-12 who are interested in swimming are encouraged to attend a meeting at their respective schools on the following days:

Frankfort High/Middle students: Tuesday, Sept. 18 at 5 p.m.

Franklin County/Elkhorn students: Thursday, Sept. 20 at 5 p.m.

Western Hills/Bondurant students: Monday, Sept. 24 at 4 p.m.
