The Franklin County Flyers played their third game in the Berea Cup on Saturday. It was a rematch with Boyle County and the outcome was different this time than earlier this season. FCHS won the game decisively 7-1.
The Flyers lost Sept. 6 to Boyle County 3-1.
“We played like a completely different team as opposed to the first time we played Boyle,” Franklin County coach Zac Donnelly said. “I was extremely happy with their first half performance, leading 6-0 at the half.”
Senior Logan Doris, who scored four goals in the first half, led the Flyer offense. Senior Rolman Delgado passed the ball to Doris for his first goal with 34:25 remaining in the first half. Less than 10 minutes later, Doris passed the ball to senior Medhi Boughroud to make the score 2-0.
The Flyers continued to control the game on both ends of the field just a minute later when Delgado again made a pass to Doris for the Flyers’ third goal of the game. Doris continued his offensive attack when his shot hit the back of the net on an assist from junior Nathan Hale.
Doris scored his fourth goal of the half on a ball from senior defender Vince Gouge. The last goal of the half was scored by freshman Tyrone Hayden on an assist from senior Cornelio Soto.
The Flyers scored their final goal of the game 10 minutes into the second half when Hale headed the ball into the net after a free kick from senior Austin Sutcliffe.
The Rebels’ only goal of the game was scored by freshman Evan McMann with 14:04 remaining in the game.
Senior Nathan Kring was in the goal for the Flyers.
The Flyers (7-4-1) travel to Mercer County on Tuesday night.
