The Western Hills boys varsity soccer team defeated the West Jessamine Colts 2-1 Saturday night at the Madison Southern field to win the Berea Cup championship game.
The tournament featured 12 teams and the Wolverines finished with a 4-0 record.
Adam Goss scored against the Colts at 24:48 of the first half from an assist by Elma Nfor.
The Colts’ Josh Bowman then scored at 23:36 to tie the game, but Goss answered quickly with a second goal at 23:08 on another assist from Nfor.
Despite the low final score the Wolverines relentlessly attacked the goal and controlled the field throughout most of the game. Goalkeepers were Will Davis for the Wolverines and Wesley Holifield for the Colts.
“I was really happy with the performance tonight,” said WHHS head coach Daniel Cowan. “The boys worked hard this entire tournament and definitely deserved the results they got.”
The Wolverines improved to 13-0-1 and the Eagles fell to 9-6-0.
Lalo Juarez, Nfor, Cory Johnson, and Goss were named to the all-tournament team. Goss also was named tournament MVP.
On Tuesday the Wolverines varsity and JV teams return to Sower Field to host the Anderson County Bearcats beginning at 5:30 p.m.
