LEXINGTON – The Western Hills Wolverine boys soccer team traveled to Lexington Thursday night to take on the Tates Creek Commodores.

In the varsity contest the ninth-ranked Wolverines came away with an impressive 1-0 victory over the eighth-ranked Commodores.

Lalo Juarez scored at 10:22 in the first half on a pass from Adam Goss.

Throughout the game the Wolverines created numerous shots and drives at the goal which kept the Commodores’ goalkeeper Evan Adams very busy.

Wolverines’ goalkeeper Will Davis was equally impressive and late in the game preserved the win with a leaping save on a well-struck long shot by the Commodores.

“It was an excellent game,” WHHS coach Daniel Cowan said. “Everyone played phenomenally and I couldn’t be more proud of the team tonight. That was a huge win.”

The Wolverine varsity improved 15-0-1 and the Commodores fell to 9-3-4.

In the JV contest, the Wolverines won 2-0 and were never really threatened by the Commodores.

The Wolverines’ Keenan Jones scored at 25:55 and Grayson Arnold scored at 15:17 in the first half, both on medium range shots.

The Wolverines controlled the entire field for most of the contest. The goalkeeper for the Commodores was Aamer Shalash and Adrew Bates was in goal for the Wolverines. The JV team is now 9-2-1.

Next up for the Wolverines are away games against Woodford County Tuesday night beginning at 6 p.m.
