WHHS notes: Closing out the season with five straight district games, the Wolverines are keeping their eyes on the playoffs. District play got off to a rough start last week as Bourbon County, with returning District Player of the Year Kentayvous Hopkins, beat WHHS 66-8. The Wolverines scored on a safety, and their touchdown came on a 17-yard pass from Nick Young to Ethan Cox. Western Hills senior Casey McLean rushed for 106 yards last week and remains the team’s top rusher. Last season the Wolverines defeated Bath County 35-28 in Owingsville. The Wildcats have already won more games this season than they did last year.
A look at Bath County

Last year’s record: 3-7
Notes: Bath County ran its district record to 2-0 last week with a dramatic 21-20 victory over defending district champion Garrard County. Senior running back Timothy Robinson has rushed for 478 yards this season, followed by junior Curren Shrout with 395 yards (191 of those coming against West Carter), and senior Jared Castle with 305 yards. Clark Kissick, the Wildcats’ senior quarterback, has passed for 778 yards and six touchdowns. He’s also rushed for five TDs. Senior linebacker Chase Hamm leads the Wildcat defense with 66 tackles.
No. 4 Franklin County
vs. East Jessamine

Records: Franklin Co. (6-0), East Jessamine (1-4)
Last week: Franklin County defeated West Jessamine 42-21; East Jessamine defeated Woodford County 28-19
FCHS notes: The Flyer offense hit a bit of a bump last week, but not many teams can say they scored 42 points and were 24 points below their average. Senior Ryan Timmons has scored 24 touchdowns this season – 16 rushing, seven receiving and one on a kickoff return. He’s rushed for 679 yards, averaging 113.2 yards per game. Junior Chris Roberts has rushed for 220 yards and five touchdowns. Timmons has caught 15 passes for 470 yards, and junior Lorenzo McCaskell has 13 receptions for 373 yards and five touchdowns. Senior Logan Woodside has completed 53 of 77 passes for 1,275 yards and 18 touchdowns with just two interceptions. Sophomore linebacker Jared Marshall leads the Flyer defense with 49.5 tackles.
A look at East Jessamine

Key players: Ronnie Carson, Blake Hinkle, Hayden Tatman
Last year’s record: 5-6 (lost to Conner 28-7 in the first round of the Class 5A state playoffs)
Notes: The Jaguars got off to a rough start this season, losing their first four games, but they picked up a big win last week in their district opener. East Jessamine had just 190 yards of offense in the game but picked off two Woodford County passes and recovered four fumbles. On the season sophomore quarterback Ronnie Carson has completed 12 of 28 passes for 160 yards and one touchdown with two interceptions. Senior Blake Hinkle is EJHS’ leading rusher with 218 yards and one touchdown, and Carson has rushed for 197 yards and three touchdowns. Senior Hayden Tatman has been Carson’s favorite target, catching 10 passes for 152 yards and one touchdown.
