Frankfort High’s girls soccer team closed out the home portion of its season with a 4-1 victory over Bryan Station Wednesday at Sower Soccer Field.
The win was the 10th this season for the Lady Panthers, who are 10-6 going into their regular-season finale today at Presentation in Louisville.
“That gives us double digit wins for the first time in a very long time,” FHS coach Adam Saunderson said. “The girls did very, very well.”
Frankfort led 1-0 at halftime on a goal by Shanae Brown.
“We had control in the first half,” Saunderson said. “We had a lot of shots, but their keeper made some good saves.”
The second half was much like the first for FHS.
“We dominated,” Saunderson said, “but we couldn’t get the ball in the back of the net. Then all of a sudden Shanae scores and then her sister Shauntae scores within two minutes of each other and we go up three-nil.”
Maggie Smith had the Lady Panthers’ final goal.
“It was a great solo effort,” Saunderson said. “She went around three defenders and blasted it.”
That made the score 4-0, and the Lady Defenders scored in the final 20 seconds to avoid the shutout.
“That didn’t take away from how we played,” Saunderson said.
Maya Burke was in goal for Frankfort.
Tuesday wasn’t senior night, but it was the final home game for the FHS seniors – Cadence Blevins, Shanae Brown, Shauntae Brown, Sara Frye, Aubrey Persons, Georgia Ueltschi and Abby Walters.
“We ended the game with all of the seniors out on the field,” Saunderson said. “They’ve been terrific all year. We’ve gotten great leadership from Aubrey and Georgia, and the others have contributed their leadership this year.
“It’s been a very, very good senior class.”
