Flyers fall in overtime

COVINGTON – Franklin County’s boys basketball team lost to Dixie Heights in overtime 64-59 Saturday night.

The game was close throughout with Dixie Heights leading 14-13 after the first quarter and 30-22 at halftime.

The Flyers (1-4) outscored DHHS 17-8 in the third quarter to take a 39-38 advantage into the fourth quarter.

The game was tied 53-53 at the end of regulation.

Lorenzo McCaskell scored 24 points to lead FCHS, and Rylan Rowe had 20 points. Rounding out the scoring for the Flyers were Chris Roberts with six points, Conner Meyer with five, and Ryan Schneider with four points.

Brandon Hatton scored a game-high 31 points to lead Dixie Heights (5-1).

FCHS plays its next game Tuesday at Harrison County.

BASKETBALL

Elks Hoop Shoot is Jan. 6

Frankfort Elks No. 530 will hold its local Hoop Shoot contest on Sunday, Jan. 6 at Frankfort High’s F.D. Wilkinson gym on Ewing Street.  

This is open to children ages 8-13, boys and girls – 8-9 year olds will shoot at 1 p.m., 10-11 year olds at 2 p.m., and 12-13 at 3 p.m.

Participants will shoot as of their age on April 1, 2013. Please bring a copy of the shooter’s birth certificate; without it they may not be able to advance to the next level. 

All first place winners will advance to the next level of competition.
