BASKETBALL

Knights of Columbus hosting free throw competition Jan. 27

The 2013 Knights of Columbus Free Throw Competition will be held Jan. 27 in the Good Shepherd Elementary School Gym. This competition is open to boys and girls ages 10 to 14 as of Jan. 1, 2013 and will be separated for boys and girls of every age. Proof of age is requested.

The event is free and prizes are awarded. Registration begins at 2 p.m., and the competition starts at 2:30. Winners advance to district competition. For more information, call Alan Hamilton at 695-7290.

DODGEBALL

WeWannaPlay tourney set for Jan. 20 at WHHS

The third annual WeWannaPlay Dodgeball Bash will be Jan. 20 at the Western Hills High School gym.

The tournament will have a round-robin format, and all teams are guaranteed three games.

The entry fee is $60 per team. There will be six players per team with a maximum of eight players. Prizes will be awarded to the first-and second-place teams and the best-dressed team.

Early sign-in will be from 1:15-2 p.m., Jan. 20 with games to begin at 2.

Admission is free, but donations will be accepted.

WeWannaPlay, Inc. is a 501 (C) 3 non-profit organization whose mission is to make sure every student-athlete who wishes to participate in middle or high school varsity sports has that opportunity and is not held back by the escalating costs of participation fees. All funds raised are used locally in sponsorships of qualifying student athletes in organized sports at Frankfort, Franklin County and Western Hills high schools.

All ‘A’ Classic coming to town Jan. 23-27

The Touchstone Energy All “A” Classic, an annual basketball tournament for the state’s smallest high schools, will take place at the Frankfort Convention Center Jan. 23-27.

There will be 16 boys and 16 girls regional champions that will compete for the All “A” state titles.

In-game cheerleading competitions also will be held during the first rounds of boys and girls basketball play.

Frankfort High’s basketball teams will be competing in the 11th Region All “A” Tournament this week at Sayre.

The Panthers play the opening game in the boys tournament, taking on Lexington Christian Tuesday at 8 p.m.

The winner of that game will play Sayre Thursday at 8 p.m. in one semifinal game.

The other semifinal will pit Berea against Model Wednesday at 8 p.m., and the championship game will be Saturday at 8 p.m.

Sayre and Berea meet in the first game of the girls tournament Tuesday at 6 p.m.

Frankfort faces Model in the first semifinal game Wednesday at 6 p.m., and on Thursday Lexington Christian will take on the winner of the Sayre-Berea game.

The girls championship game will be played Saturday at 6 p.m.
