Signups set for Saturday

The Frankfort Youth Football League will have signups 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday at Harrod Football Field at Capitol View Park.

The signups are for players and cheerleaders, and the cost is $100. This year there will be four age divisions – 12U, 10U, 8U and 6U.

Run for the Gold March 17

Good Shepherd is sponsoring the 5th Annual Good Shepherd Irish “Run for the Gold” March 17. The 3K Fun Run/Walk begins at the corner of St. Clair and Broadway at 6:30 p.m.

JHLGC to meet Tuesday

The Juniper Hill Ladies Golf Club will hold its spring organizational meeting 6 p.m. Tuesday at the Juniper Hill Golf Course Clubhouse. 

All members are encouraged to attend as important business will be conducted. By-law revisions will be discussed.

Clinics coming

up at Juniper

Spring golf training begins the week of March 18 at Juniper Hill Golf Course with clinics on putting and chipping.

The schedule for the clinics is March 18 (putting, 5-6 p.m.); March 20 (putting/chipping, 5-6 p.m.); and March 22 (putting/chipping/pitching, 5-6 p.m.).

Clinics scheduled for the following week are March 25 (Full Swing, 5-6 p.m.); March 27 (Full Swing, 5-6 p.m.); and March 29 (Home Run Derby, 5-6 p.m.).

Go Frankfort tourney is March 23

Go Frankfort has scheduled its March Madness Dodgeball Tournament for 6 p.m. March 23 at the First United Methodist Church’s Gymnasium located on Washington Street. 

This year there will be adult and youth divisions. Sign-ups are taking place at with a limit of 24 adult teams and 20 youth teams. 

Adult teams are comprised of 6-8 players with all players being 13 years of age or older and youth teams are comprised of players under the age of 13. 

All teams will play round-robin games followed by a single-elimination tournament with the winners taking home the Patches O’Houlihan Memorial Trophy.

Proceeds from the event will be used to fund projects for the Go Frankfort Volunteer Day scheduled for May 18.

College Basketball

Women’s NAIA National Championships

set to begin Wednesday

The 2013 National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) tips off the Division I Women’s Basketball National Championships 8:30 a.m. Wednesday.

The 32-team, single elimination format is scheduled March 13-19 at the Frankfort Convention Center.

The championships begin at 8:30 a.m. on the first day and 9 a.m. on the second and third day, with eight games scheduled each day. The quarterfinals kick off at 2 p.m. March 16, and the semifinals are slated for March 18 at 6 and 8 p.m. The championship final, which will be televised live on CBS Sports Network, will be at 6:30 p.m., March 19.

Tickets can be purchased at the door for $10 per session.

Football boosters selling mulch, bulbs

The WHHS Football Booster Club is now selling mulch and bulbs.

Black platinum mulch is $4.75 per 2.25 cu. ft. bag and the premium cypress mulch is $4.75 per 2.0 cu. ft. bag. The bulbs range from $11-$15.

Stephanie Decker Day March 25

The Franklin County High School baseball team is hosting Stephanie Decker Day March 25. Decker is a 1992 graduate of FCHS who lost her legs while protecting her children as an F4 tornado destroyed their home in Henryville, Ind., last year.

On March 25 at 5:30 p.m., the Flyer baseball team will play Silver Creek High School, coached by Decker’s husband, Joe Decker. 

The purpose of the day is to raise awareness and money for the Stephanie Decker Foundation, which in part helps children who have prosthetics play sports. It also helps amputees gain access to leading edge technology in prosthetics. 

The baseball team is selling commemorative T-shirts for the event and tickets to a post-game meal, with proceeds from both going directly toward Decker’s foundation.

hosting dodgeball tourney

Franklin County’s softball team is hosting a dodgeball tournament 3 p.m. March 17 at the FCHS gym.

The cost is $60 per six-player team for advance registration and $75 the day of the tournament.

All proceeds from the tournament will benefit the Franklin County Lady Flyer softball team.

Football team selling mulch

The Franklin County football team is selling mulch by the bag, scoop or truckload through Monday, April 22.

The cost is $5 for a 2.25 cu. ft. nursery bag, or $6 per bag and the team will spread the mulch.

Scoops are $25 picked up at the school, $35 delivered to your home or business, or for $60 it is delivered and spread. One scoop covers approximately 125 square feet.

Grade A cypress is also available this year for $8.50 for a 3 cu. ft. bag or $9.50 per bag and the team will spread the mulch.
