Boys golf team goes 2-0
The Western Hills boys golf team was 2-0 in conference play this past week with wins over Martha Layne Collins and Woodford County.
The Wolverines defeated Collins by one stroke, 160-161, at Juniper Hill Golf Course Tuesday.
WHHS’ Nick Wilkins picked up medalist honors with a one-over-par 36. Chris Hughes and Macaulay Hurst both posted 40 while Travis Hammond and Chase Mahoney turned in scores of 42 and 43, respectively.
The WHHS junior varsity squad, led by sophomore Will Collins, also pulled out a one-stroke victory, 185-186. Collins led all JV players with a score of 43.
The Wolverines traveled to Woodford County Thursday and came away with a 156-168 win. Wilkins led the way with a two-over par-37 followed by Hughes, 38; Hammond, 39; Hurst, 42; and Mahoney, 47.
The JV contest was close but the Wolverines came up short with a team score of 195 to Woodford County’s 193. The Western Hills JV squad was led by Petey Gall with a 46.
The Wolverines return to action Tuesday in the Hilen Cup at Juniper Hill.
