The Western Hills High School girls soccer team won the Rotary Capital City Classic Championship 5-3 over Franklin County with penalty kicks Monday night at Sower Soccer Complex.
With both teams tied 1-1 at the end of regulation — Franklin County with a goal by Kerry Taylor and Western Hills with a header by Maria Conway — they entered a five-minute sudden death period.
The two teams remained tied after the first sudden death and still couldn't score at the end of a second five-minute period. The game came down to penalty kicks.
After a missed penalty kick by Franklin County's Hailey Boden, and a successful kick by Kolby Richardson for Western Hills, it was up to County's Kerry Taylor to score. Her ball went over the goal and Western Hills came away with the victory.
