The Franklin County Flyers suffered their third district loss this season Thursday night at Woodford County. The Yellow Jackets shut out the Flyers 3-0.
The Yellow Jackets scored the only goal of the first half early in the contest.
With 32:23 on the clock, Woodford County senior Daniel Christian found the back of the net to make the score 1-0. The remainder of the first half was a battle of defenses. The Yellow Jackets did have an opportunity to widen the deficit late in the half after a Flyer foul in the box, but the penalty kick hit the goal post and bounced away from the goal.
With 29:32 to go in the second half, Yellow Jacket senior Ethan Gardner followed a shot that Flyer goalkeeper Adam Gehlhausen deflected for their second goal of the game. Woodford County’s final goal came with 18:29 remaining in the game after another Flyer foul in the box that resulted in a penalty kick.
“I am very proud of our effort tonight. We hung with a very talented team,” coach Louis Tandy said. “Adam Gehlhausen played very solid in the goal. We also had good play from our center backs, sophomore Seiver Tandy and freshman David McIver.”
