The Franklin County Flyers JV team hosted the Shelby County Rockets Tuesday night. The Flyers took control of the game early and won their second game of the season 4-1.
Less than seven minutes into the contest, freshman Zach Green followed up a deflection by the Rockets’ goalie for the first goal of the game. Austin Mefford dribbled around several defenders for an easy shot on goal a few minutes later, giving the Flyers a 2-0 lead at the half.
With 26:07 remaining in the second half, the Rockets committed a foul, which set up a free kick from 30 yards out for freshman Curtis Green. The ball soared into the back of the net giving the Flyers a 3-0 lead. Less than three minutes later, Ethan Young scored the Flyers’ last goal of the game from a few feet in front of the goal.
The Rockets scored their only goal of the game with 19:17 remaining in the match.
Mason Parritt was in the goal for the Flyers.
“Our JV played well against Shelby County. We continue to play good defense, pressuring the ball,” JV coach Jason Adkins said. “I moved some players around in positions they hadn’t played in previously and they responded well.
“Mason played excellent in goal. Matthew Melton and Austin Mefford did a great job controlling the middle. We continue to create a lot of scoring opportunities. I am very proud of these young men and the heart they show out on the field.”
FCHS (2-2-1) will play Madison Central Sept. 26 at the Sower Soccer Complex.
