The Franklin County junior varsity boys soccer team played Scott County at Sower Soccer Complex Tuesday night. The Flyers led early in the game, but it ended in a 3-3 draw.
After missed opportunities by both teams throughout most of the first half, the Flyers set up a free kick after a Scott County foul. FCHS freshman Curtis Green took the free kick with 7:47 on the clock, finding Matthew Melton a few feet in front of the goal for the score.
The Flyers held a 2-0 halftime lead after Austin Mefford took a hard shot just outside the box that went through the Cardinal goalie’s hands with 12 seconds remaining in the half.
The Cardinals offense started the second half with more aggression than the Flyers saw in the first half. Just over five minutes into the half, the Cardinals scored their first goal of the game on a header played a few feet in front of the goal.
The Cardinals struck again with 28:48 remaining in the half with an uncontested shot in front of the goal. The Flyers regained the lead with 17 minutes remaining in the game on an own goal by Scott County. The Cardinals tied the game at the 7:09 mark on a long shot from the corner that went through the goalie’s hands.
The FCHS JV Flyers (2-3-2) travel to Shelbyville to play Collins tonight.
