The Franklin County Flyers took their young soccer team to Shelby County Thursday night to play Collins, the third ranked team in the state.
The Flyers’ defense was able to stop the offensive attack of the Titans until the 16:47 mark of the first half. Senior Jack Oakey scored on a hard shot that the Flyers’ diving goalie was unable to stop.
The Titans scored their second goal of the half when a ball was played short on a corner kick and senior midfielder Jeff Cook hit the back of the net on an 18-yard shot.
The Titans led 2-0 at the half.
The defense of both teams in the second half was able to keep their opponent scoreless until with six minutes remaining in the game, Titans junior Malik Shalash positioned himself on the back post on a Titan corner kick and was able to get the goal.
The Flyers (4-12) travel to Oldham County Tuesday night.
In the junior varsity game, the Flyers were shut out by the Titans 3-0.
