The pairings have been set for the 41st District volleyball tournament to be played Oct. 22-23 at Western Hills High School.
Woodford County (13-10) is the No. 1 seed and has a first-round bye.
WHHS (13-18) and Franklin County (17-12) will play Oct. 22 at 6 p.m., with the winner advancing to the championship match against Woodford County Oct. 23 at 6 p.m.
KSU football players honored
Kentucky State senior defensive back Eric Rawls was named the SIAC’s Defensive Player of the Week Monday.
Rawls had three interceptions, returning one 42 yards for a touchdown, in the Thorobreds’ 17-11 homecoming win over Fort Valley State Saturday.
The victory put the Thorobreds at 2-1 in conference play.
Last week KSU junior running back Jacquise Lockett was named co-Offensive Player of the Week and senior kick returner Jakar Turner was named Special Teams Player of the Week by the SIAC for their performances against Alderson Broaddus.
Lockett rushed for three touchdowns and 135 yards in three quarters, and Turner had a 91-yard kickoff return for a touchdown as the Thorobreds defeated ABU 49-20. The game was called after the third quarter because of lightning and heavy rain.
Leach gets playing time
Kaleb Leach, a redshirt freshman on the Florida Institute of Technology football team, has played in four of the Panthers’ six games. He is a 2012 graduate of Frankfort High School.
A running back, Leach had his best game against Valdosta State Oct. 5 in Valdosta, Ga., when he returned six kickoffs for a total of 129 yards and had five carries for 21 yards.
On the year Leach has 13 carries for 48 yards and seven kickoff returns for 155 yards.
Florida Tech, a NCAA Div. II school, is 1-5 overall and 0-3 in the Gulf South Conference.
Dotson national leader in volleyball
Caitlin Dotson, a senior setter on the Lipscomb University volleyball team, leads the nation in assists per set among NCAA Div. I schools.
A graduate of Sacred Heart Academy in Louisville, Dotson is the daughter of Fran and Kurt Dotson and the granddaughter of Kenneth Dotson of Frankfort and the late Wanda Dotson.
She leads the nation with 12.7 assists per set in matches played through Oct. 13.
Last season Dotson led the Atlantic Sun Conference with 11.67 assists per set and ranked eighth in the NCAA. She was named the A-Sun Scholar Athlete of the Year and was selected to the All-A Sun second team and All-Academic team.
Lipscomb is 12-6 overall and 6-2 in conference play.
