Western Hills’ volleyball team is doing just what coach Kristi Buffenmyer was looking for as the regular season winds down.
The Lady Wolverines defeated Owen County 25-20, 25-16, 25-19 Tuesday at WHHS.
“They did really well tonight,” Buffenmyer said. “We still have a few little things to clean up, but for the most part we played well. I’m excited going into the district.
“This is when you want to be playing well, down the home stretch, and we did tonight. Hopefully we can keep it up tomorrow and into the district tournament against Franklin County.”
The first game was close most of the way before the Lady Wolverines (14-18) pulled away late.
WHHS controlled the second game and was leading in the third game before Owen County (10-23) rallied within three points at 22-19.
“They had us against the wall at 22-19,” Buffenmyer said, “but we went on and finished it.”
The Lady Wolverines scored the last three points to win the game and the match.
Western Hills hosts Mercer County tonight at 7:30 to close out the regular season.
WHHS is hosting the 41st District tournament next week and will play Franklin County in the first round Tuesday at 6 p.m.
