Boys basketball posts win

PARIS — Frankfort High’s boys basketball team defeated Bourbon County 52-45 Friday.

The Panthers (3-12) took an 11-6 lead after the first quarter, but Bourbon County pulled even at the half, which ended in a 22-22 tie.

FHS went ahead by nine points in the third quarter. 

The Colonels (4-10) cut Frankfort’s lead to four in the fourth quarter but couldn’t get any closer.

Anthony Robinson had a double-double for Frankfort with 16 points and 13 rebounds.

Jeffrey Quire scored 14 points for FHS, followed by Jalen Washington with 11, Travis Skelton with eight and Matthew Smith with three points.

Frankfort’s next game is at home Tuesday against Franklin County.


Panthers hosting DMD Classic

Frankfort High’s boys basketball team is hosting the DMD Classic, which will consist of three boys basketball games, Saturday at F.D. Wilkinson Sports Arena on Ewing Street.

Games begin at 5 p.m. with Sayre versus LaRue County. Franklin County takes on Riverside Christian at 6:30, and Frankfort squares off against Danville in the nightcap at 8.

Admission is $6.

Free throw contest is Jan. 26

The 2014 Knights of Columbus free throw competition will take place Jan. 26 in the Good Shepherd School Gym. 

This competition is open to boys and girls ages 9 through 14 as of Jan. 1, 2014. Competition is free and prizes are awarded. 

Separate competitions are held for boys and girls of every age, and proof of age is requested. 

Registration begins at 2 p.m., and competition begins at 2:30 with winners advancing to district competition.

WeWannaPlay tournament is Jan. 19

The fourth annual WeWannaPlay Dodgeball Bash will take place Jan. 19 in the Western Hills High School gym.

Early sign-in begins at 1:15 p.m., and games begin at 2.

The entry fee is $60 per team with six players per team. 

Each team is guaranteed three games.

Admission to the tournament is free, but donations will be accepted.

Trifecta early registration concludes Wednesday

Online registration for the Frankfort Trifecta Run/Walk Race Series is open at runsignup.com/Race/KY/Frankfort/TheFrankfortTrifecta.  

An early registration price of $45 ($12 off the regular registration price) is available until midnight Wednesday.Paper registration forms are available at Cool Comfort Body & Sole Store, Pro.Active Therapy and the YMCA.

The Frankfort Trifecta is a set of three progressively longer distance road runs/walks — the Run for the Gold 3K March 17 at 6:30 p.m., the Pro.Active for Life 5K May 9 at 6:30 p.m., and the Capital City Stampede 10K Run/2 Mile Walk June 14 at 8 a.m. 

The Trifecta series benefits Good Shepherd’s Visual & Performing Arts Program, the United Way of Franklin County, WeWannaPlay and the Y’s Annual Giving Campaign.
