Boys Basketball: Panthers, Flyers cruise to wins in DMD Classic

Frankfort High and Franklin County cruised to victories in the DMD Classic boys basketball showcase Saturday night at F.D. Wilkinson Sports Arena.

The Panthers played the nightcap and beat Danville 56-38 while FCHS defeated Riverside Christian 83-15. LaRue County took a 66-46 win over Sayre in the opener.

Frankfort 56, Danville 38

Frankfort scored the first six points of the game and stayed in control the rest of the way.

FHS led 13-4 at the end of the first quarter and 31-13 at halftime, and the Panthers pushed their lead to 20 points, 44-24, going into the fourth quarter.

Frankfort placed four players in double figures, led by Anthony Robinson with 14 points. Travis Skelton and Jalen Washington scored 12 points each, and Jeff Quire finished with 10 points.

Rounding out the scoring for FHS were Matthew Smith with four points and DeShawn Newton and Tre Winkfield with two points apiece.

Danville was led in scoring by Jakobi Turner with 10 points.

Robinson was named the Player of the Game.

The Panthers are hosting the 11th Region All “A” Classic this week and they play Lexington Christian Tuesday at 8 p.m.

Franklin Co. 83, Riverside 15

The Flyers jumped out to a 37-0 lead at the end of the first quarter and led 40-0 before Riverside Christian scored.

At halftime FCHS was up 45-6, and the lead was 56 points, 65-9, after three quarters.

Franklin County had 12 players score, led by Malik Barnett with 16 points and Matthew Lee with 15.

Also scoring for FCHS were Samuel Mackey with eight points, Quenton Brownlee and Grady Lee with seven points each, Rylan Rowe with six, Lorenzo McCaskell and Quentin Rowe with five points each, Ryan Schneider with four, and Chris Roberts and Taylor Walston with three points each.

Franklin County’s starters played just about a minute at the start of each half before FCHS coach Tommy Johnson began substituting.

Barnett was named the Player of the Game.

All 15 of Riverside’s points came on 3-pointers, four from Devan Baker.

The Flyers play their next game Tuesday at Bryan Station.
