The Frankfort Lady Panthers are going for a repeat.

Sophomores BriAnna Burbridge and Jasmine Turpin combined for 41 points and 25 rebounds to lead FHS past Lexington Christian Academy 63-57 in the 2014 Touchstone Energy 11th Region All “A” Classic semifinals Thursday night at F.D. Wilkinson Sports Arena.

“We did a good job. We started to come together as a team and at the end we just played well,” said Burbridge, who finished with 20 points and 15 rebounds.

The Lady Panthers (7-12), who snapped a five-game losing skid, will be trying for back-to-back titles when they play the winner of tonight’s Sayre-Berea game in the finals Saturday at 6 p.m. The Lady Eagles (6-10) had won the tournament 14 straight times before losing last season.

“(LCA) is a quality basketball team that has a lot of pride in what they do,” FHS coach Deron Norman said. “We have struggled all year long. I have put them through the fire. ... They’ve overcome a lot this year and they deserve to go into the championship game and try and defend.”

After trailing by five with five minutes left in the game, Turpin scored four straight points and Burbridge added a pair of free throws to make it 53-52 and give FHS the lead for good.

A free throw by LCA sophomore Hannah Hartley tied the game at 53-all with three minutes to go, but the Lady Panthers scored seven of the next nine points — all coming from the free throw line — to take a 60-55 lead with 31 seconds remaining.

Senior Katelin Bundy followed with a bucket to cut the lead to 60-57 with 21 seconds left, but FHS made a couple of free throws and got a couple of offensive rebounds to seal the win.

“We got down tonight and they came back and they did it together and they made big shots at the end,” Norman said.

The Lady Panthers went 15 for 20 from the foul line in the fourth quarter. Burbridge made 7 of 10, Turpin 4 of 4 and Jayne Yocum 4 of 6.

“We needed to come back and pull through and the only thing we had to do was go into them and let them foul us so we could shoot free throws to come back with the big win,” Burbridge said.

Along with Burbridge, Turpin also finished with a double-double (21 points and 10 rebounds) for the Lady Panthers. Yocum added 10 points and five rebounds.

“Jasmine is an extremely solid post player,” Norman said. “She’s learning inside how to score, how to read the defense against her. She has great touch and she battles.

“Bri is just a solid player. She has great ability. ... She’s got to step up like she did in this game tonight, that’s the type of player she is.”

Senior Holly Huellemeier had 29 points and 14 rebounds to lead the Lady Eagles. Bundy finished with 12 points and junior Hayley Strunk added 10 points and six rebounds.
