Kentucky State loses in semifinals

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — The Kentucky State men's basketballl season came to an end in the semifinals of the SIAC Basketball Championship Tournament Friday night.

The Thorobreds (15-14) lost to Tuskegee, the No. 1 seed in the West Division, 90-68 in the semifinals.

Tuskegee (17-11) built a 41-13 lead, its largest of the game, with 3:04 left in the first half. At halftime the Golden Tigers were ahead 46-23.

TU shot 54 percent from the field and went 18 for 23 from the foul line. KSU, the No. 3 seed out of the West, shot 49 percent from the field but was just 5 for 14 on free throws.

K-State's Brandon Darrett recorded his 12th double-double of the season with 10 points and 12 rebounds. He also blocked three shots.

Antonio Sullivan scored a game-high 24 points for the Thorobreds, followed by Quentin Henderson with 12 points, Darquell Pulliam with 10, and Ulysses Thomas III and Troy Adams with six points each.

Tuskegee's Richard Dixon had a double-double with 19 points and 11 rebounds, and Javier McKinney chipped in 17 points for the Golden Tigers.

Tuskegee will meet Fort Valley State Saturday for the tournament championship. Fort Valley (21-8), the top-seeded team from the East Division, defeated Paine College 64-61 in the semifinals Friday.
