Lafayette wins girls 11th Region title

Freshman Kiara Pankins poured in 25 points and Lafayette's girls basketball team rallied in the third quarter on its way to a 53-40 win over Dunbar in the championship game of the 11th Region Tournament Sunday afternoon at the Frankfort Convention Center.

Dee Givens, selected as the tournament's Most Valuable Player, finished with 15 points for Lafayette (27-3).

Dunbar (25-8) led 14-11 after the first quarter and 24-23 at halftime.

After three quarters Lafayette was ahead 36-29.

Dunbar's Brooke Todd finished with a double-double of 13 points and 14 rebounds.
