Western Hills’ Henry Collett came into the John Harnice Invitational boys tennis tournament as the No. 2 seed, and that’s where he finished.

Collett reached the finals of Saturday’s tournament, hosted by Franklin County, where he faced Woodford County’s Luke Least.

Least won the championship match 6-0, 6-0.

The Wolverines tied for second place in the team standings with Shelby County. Woodford County won the team title with eight points, and WHHS and Shelby both had five points.

“I thought we did well throughout the day,” WHHS co-coach Taylor Wise said. “We had a couple of hiccups, but I thought we did well.”

Collett and Least both had first-round byes. Collett won his first match 6-4, 7-6 (6) over Shelby County’s Jeron Russell, and he defeated Bullitt East’s Hunter Norris 6-3, 6-1 in the semifinals.

Least dropped a total of five games on the way to the final, winning 6-3, 6-0 over Jimmy Welman of Shelby County and 6-0, 6-2 over Danville’s Josh Joiner in the semifinals.

“My first match I didn’t play very well,” Collett said. “My opponent used to be my doubles partner, and he played really well. My second match I played much better.

“The finals was a mixture of him having really quick matches and mine taking longer, but I think he would have won if we’d both been fresh.”

WHHS and FCHS each had one doubles team reach the semifinals.

Western Hills’ Andrew Bates and Felix Lopez won their first match 7-5, 6-4 over Franklin County’s Neal Monroe and Logan Goodwin; and they won by default over Danville to make it to the semis.

In the semifinals, Shelby County’s Luke Dove and Michael Chen defeated Bates and Lopez 6-0, 6-4.

Franklin County’s team picked up its two points from its doubles team of Abhi Dharinipragada and Charlie Starzman.

Dharinipragada and Starzman opened the tournament with a 6-2, 6-4 victory over Phillip Burress and Zach Marlett of Bullitt East and followed that with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Shelby County’s Nick Freeman and Josh Barry to advance to the semifinals.

Woodford’s Eric Sandknop and Esteban Favetto, the tournament’s top-seeded doubles team, defeated Dharinipragada and Starzman 6-2, 6-2 in the semis.

Sandknop and Favetto won the championship match 6-4, 6-3 over Dove and Chen.
There were six teams in the tournament — Bullitt East, Danville, FCHS, Shelby County, WHHS and Woodford County.
