District baseball,
softball tourneys set

The 41st District baseball and softball tournaments will be played next week.

The baseball tournament will be played at Western Hills, and the softball tournament will take place at Frankfort High’s Bob Fannin Field in Capitol View Park.

The softball tournament will have first-round games Monday and Tuesday with the championship Wednesday. All the games will start at 5:30 p.m.

Top-seeded Franklin County will take on Frankfort Monday, and Western Hills and Woodford County square off Tuesday. The winners of the two games will meet in Wednesday’s championship game.

The baseball tournament will play both its first-round games Tuesday. Western Hills is the No. 1 seed and plays Frankfort at 5:30 p.m., and Franklin County and Woodford County meet at 8.
The championship game will be Wednesday at 6 p.m.

The teams in the championship games of both tournaments will advance to the 11th Region tournaments.

Murray State’s golf
season ends at regional

The Murray State women’s golf team wrapped up its season Saturday in the NCAA Div. I East Regional.

The regional was played Thursday through Saturday at SouthWood Golf Course in Tallahassee, Fla.

Murray State shot a three-day total of 933 to finish 23rd at the regional.

MSU sophomore Abbi Stamper, a graduate of Franklin County High School, posted a score of 243 (81-78-84).

The top eight teams in the region advance to the NCAA national tournament. Vanderbilt won the East Regional with a 14-under par score of 840, and Vandy’s Jenny Hahn was medalist with a six-under par 207 (68-73-66).

Louisville and Kentucky also competed in the East Regional with U of L placing 18th and UK 19th.

Molen 8th in tournament
Will Molen of Frankfort placed eighth in his division of the Musselman-Dunne/Kia Classic at StoneCrest Golf Course in Prestonsburg last weekend.

Molen, playing in the 15-16 boys division, had a two-day total of 165 (84-81).

Molen is a member of the Franklin County High School boys golf team.
