Western Hills’ baseball team scored early and often on its way to a 9-5 victory over Carroll County Tuesday at WHHS.
The Wolverines (14-12) scored single runs in the first two innings and two runs in the third for a 4-0 lead.
Carroll County (18-11) tied the game with four runs in the top of the fourth inning, but WHHS responded with a run in the bottom of the fourth and scored two runs in each of the next two innings.
The Panthers’ final run came in the sixth inning.
Kyle Stevens and Zack Barker each had two hits for Western Hills. Stevens hit a triple and single, and Barker singled twice.
The team’s other hits were a double from Kyle Fisher and singles from Thomas Bennett and Brendan Cummins.
Seth Roush was WHHS’ starting pitcher and went 3 1/3 innings with six strikeouts. Barker came on in relief and pitched 2 2/3 innings, and Stevens pitched the last inning.
Justin Ray singled three times for Carroll County, and Jacob Wise hit two singles.
Seth Hicks, the Panthers’ starting pitcher, threw the first four innings, and Ray finished the game in relief.
WHHS’ next scheduled game is next week against Frankfort in the district tournament.
