Storm halts action in baseball title game

Flyers will have 1-run lead when play resumes

Franklin County and Western Hills will have to wait another day to see which will become district champions.

The finals of the 41st District Tournament was postponed until tonight after lightning — and eventually rain — came into the area. The game will resume at 5:30 p.m. at WHHS with FCHS leading WHHS 5-4 with one out in the top of the sixth.

The Flyers (13-22) have lost four of five, while the Wolverines (16-12) have won four straight and 14 of 19 overall. Both teams — who split the two regular-season meetings — automatically qualify for next week's 11th Region Tournament at WHHS.

FCHS built a 5-0 lead, scoring at least one run in each of the first four innings. Quenton Brownlee hit an RBI triple in the first and an RBI double in the fourth. Matthew Lee added an RBI single in the second and Dawson Willis and Blake Redmon drove in runs on back-to-back at-bats, hitting a double and single, respectively.

But WHHS got right back into the game in the bottom of the fourth, sending 10 batters to plate and recording all four of its runs on seven hits. Thomas Bennett, Seth Roush, Tyler Anglin and Kyle Fisher all hit RBI singles.

As of now, Michael Hurt has the win on the mound, as he gave up four runs on nine hits in 3 2/3 innings with two strikeouts. Fisher has the loss, as he also went 3 2/3 innings and allowed five runs on nine hits with five strikeouts and a walk.

Brownlee, Redmon and Rylan Rowe each have two hits for the Flyers. Bennett and Roush both have two hits for the Wolverines.
