The Frankfort Capitals were eliminated by the Grant County All-Stars, 12-5, Saturday in the East Frankfort Kiwanis Invitational Baseball Tournament at Paul Weddle Field.
The two teams were tied 4-4 when Grant scored eight runs in the bottom of the fourth inning.
The game was only five innings because it reached the hour and a half time limit.
Getting hits for Frankfort were Connor Purvis and AJ Cox each with a single and double; and Jerry Brewer, Brandon Webb, Wyatt Strasburger and Reed Miklavcic each with a single.
Kyle Sheets pitched 3⅓ innings for Frankfort and had two strikeouts. Connor Purvis struck out one batter in two-thirds of an inning.
For Grant, Joey Miskell had a double and single; and Tyler Mitts, Trent Smith, Ryan Mitts, Aaron Hurley, Matthew Rathwell and Ben Vickers each had a single.
Grant went on to defeat Jessamine County, 10-0 in four innings. Anderson County beat Shelby County 14-1 in four innings in the winner’s bracket.
Grant County and Shelby County will play at 10 a.m. today in the loser’s bracket final. The winner advances to play Anderson and will need to win twice to win the tournament. The first game is scheduled for noon and the second, if necessary, will be at 2.
Frankfort 7, Scottsville 4
To advance to Saturday, the Capitals defeated the Scottsville All Stars, 7-4, Friday, in the first round of the loser’s bracket. The game also reached the time limit.
The Capitals scored three runs in the first inning and four runs in the second inning, which included a two-run home run by Cox. Others getting hits for Frankfort were Webb with a double and Purvis with a single.
Jake Hanna pitched all five innings for the Capitals and had nine strikeouts.
Scottsville scored two runs in both the second and fifth innings. Mason Shirley and Tyler Ford both had a single for Scottsville’s only two hits.
Shirley pitched all four innings for Scottsville and had five strikeouts.
