Flyers slip past Anderson Co.
Special to The State Journal
Franklin County boys soccer team traveled to Anderson County on Tuesday night to open its regular season. Both teams remained scoreless until five minutes were remaining in the game and the Flyers scored the lone goal of the game, winning the match 1-0.
“We played hard all night and it was a very physical game,” stated Coach Louis Tandy after the game. “We were doing a good job of winning 50-50 balls. Our defense, with Joe Meyer, David McIver, Patrick Melton and Matt Johnson, played great. I thought Adam Gehlhausen played a fantastic game in the goal for us.  I’m proud of our mid-fielders tonight, Seiver Tandy, Curtis Green, Hayden Wilkerson, Austin Mefford and Tyrone Hayden.”
The only goal was scored by junior Jonathan Medina after the assist by senior Melton.
“I felt like we controlled the game for the most part, but we had a real hard time getting the ball in the net because we missed some easy shots, “ Tandy said. “Their goal keeper, Jordan Thompson, played a great game.  The Bearcats also saw good play from Cory Smith and Hunter Wilson.”
FCHS (1-0) will play host to the Woodford County Yellow Jackets on Thursday evening at the Sower Soccer Complex.
