Frankfort police caught a reported purse snatcher downtown on Saturday night.
Officers were dispatched to a theft in progress in the area of Ann Street and Broadway at 7:05 p.m.
“Witnesses stated a short, bald, tan male driving a black Dodge pickup truck was seen leaving the parking lot where a vehicle was broken into,” the arresting officer wrote in a citation for 49-year-old Charles Michael Smith.
When officers stopped Smith’s vehicle, they allegedly found a Louis Vuitton tote — which was reported stolen shortly before the theft in progress call was received — valued at $1,200-$1,400 and a Nine West black purse valued at $100.
According to his arrest citation, Smith, of Frankfort, told officers that he bought both purses from a male in the area of where the theft in progress call came from.
He is charged with two counts of receiving stolen property (more than $1,000 but less than $10,000), a Class D felony.
Smith was transported to the Franklin County Regional Jail where he is being held on a $10,000 full-cash bond.
