A search for a missing kayaker on Elkhorn Creek ended Friday morning when the person showed up.

Frankfort-Franklin County Emergency Management Director Tom Russell said the man showed up in his kayak around 11 a.m. Friday near Peaks Mill Road  “right where he was supposed to be last night.”

The man was reported missing shortly after 9 p.m. Thursday by his girlfriend, Russell said. She said they had been kayaking together, but got separated. She continued to where they were supposed to get out of the river, but he never showed up, he said.

“He just showed up in his kayak,” Russell said.

Representatives from the Emergency Management office, Franklin County Sheriff’s Office, Franklin County Fire and Frankfort Fire and EMS spent about three hours at the scene Friday night, he said.

“He just cost us some time,” Russell said.

Peaks Mill is about seven miles from Downtown Frankfort off Owenton Road, he said.
